Thesis title: Cultural safety in medical education: transformative learning through co-designing serious games in Colombia<\/a><\/strong>
Short biography
<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Pimentel, supervised by Dr. Neil Andersson and Dr. Anne Cockfort, defended his PhD thesis in March 2021. His research focused on fostering cultural safety in medical education through game-based training for medical students and interns in Colombia. The project, which involved over 650 participants, included a scoping review, qualitative studies, and a randomized controlled trial. Dr. Pimentel\u2019s work has had a lasting impact on the integration of cultural safety into medical curricula.<\/p>\n

After completing his PhD, Dr. Pimentel pursued his residency in Family Medicine at McMaster University, where he completed his training with a focus on comprehensive care and medical education. He is currently undertaking a Family Practice Anesthesia fellowship at the University of Toronto, specializing in anesthesia to combine his family medicine experience with advanced skills in perioperative care.<\/p>\n

Dr. Pimentel views himself as a clinician-scientist, dedicated to advancing medical education. His long-term goal is to integrate family medicine and anesthesiology through clinical practice, teaching, and research. He also plans to contribute to global healthcare development, particularly in Latin America, where he intends to engage in capacity building and community-based projects.<\/p>\n
