2025 Pierre Pluye International Awards – Best Papers

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Ziyue Wang and Dr. Fadzilah Hanum Mohd Mydin have been selected as co-recipients of the 2025 Pierre Pluye International Award for Best Scholarly Article in Family Medicine Education Research. This award recognizes their outstanding contributions to advancing the field through innovative use of mixed methods and meaningful scholarship. Their work exemplifies the values and vision of the FMER Group and honours the legacy of Dr. Pierre Pluye in promoting rigorous and impactful research in family medicine education.

Bio

Dr. Fadzilah Hanum Mohd Mydin is a Family Medicine consultant and academic at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, specialising in geriatrics in primary care, lifestyle medicine, mental health, and health systems innovation. Her research concentrates on vital yet frequently overlooked issues affecting older adults, including abuse of older people, advance care planning, social isolation, and mental health. She also explores healthy ageing, health behaviours, and the utilisation of technology in healthcare to enhance access and quality of care. Dr. Fadzilah has developed context-sensitive training programs and clinical guidelines for healthcare practitioners as part of the Prevent Elder Abuse Initiatives (PEACE ®). Her doctoral research focused on developing and evaluating educational interventions designed to address the abuse of older people, with an emphasis on the crucial role of primary healthcare providers. She is the principal author of a comprehensive systematic review on measurement instruments for abuse of older people, conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization and published by the Campbell Collaboration. She has also participated in WONCA’s Special Interest Groups on Violence and Ageing, and she contributes to national and international dialogues on healthy ageing and the safeguarding of older adults. Her research on abuse of older people has been acclaimed with an award at the WONCA Asia Pacific Conference. She has spearheaded digital health innovations, including a mobile application designed to facilitate behavioural change and chronic disease management via telehealth. Her endeavours have garnered awards at the Malaysia Technology
Expo and the International Innovation Awards. As an academic, she supervises postgraduate students enrolled in the Master of Family Medicine and Master of Medical Science programs. Her ongoing work continues to influence healthcare practice, policy, and education both within Malaysia and internationally. Additionally, she actively engages with communities to promote healthy ageing through lifestyle interventions, exemplified by her leadership in the global Walk with A Doc initiative in Petaling Jaya, which aims to foster healthy ageing and intergenerational connections.

Bio

Dr. Ziyue Wang is a public health physician whose work primarily focuses on health services research. His interdisciplinary scholarship lies at the nexus of health policy, healthy longevity, and rural and primary health. His main research interests include care for older adults and its social determinants, primary healthcare innovation and governance, and the evaluation of complex public health interventions.

Dr. Wang’s research has been supported by several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the FRQS Doctoral Training Award, China Scholarship Council Fellowship, McGill Global Health Scholars Program, McGill Graduate Mobility Award, Brocher Foundation Junior Researcher Scholarship, and the AGE-WELL Travel Bursary. Dr. Wang earned his PhD in Family Medicine and Primary Care from McGill University’s Department of Family Medicine, under the supervision of Dr. Howard Bergman and Dr. Isabelle Vedel. Prior to joining McGill, Dr. Wang completed an MSc in Health Policy and Management at Peking University and earned his MBBS degree from Fudan University.
