New Course: FMED 527 – Inuit Health in the Circumpolar World

We are pleased to announce a new graduate-level course offered through the Department of Family Medicine: FMED 527 – Inuit Health in the Circumpolar World.

This course provides an overview of Inuit health across the circumpolar regions, exploring:

  • Inuit history, presence, and lifeways in Inuit Nunaat (Greenland, Canada, Alaska, Chukotka)

  • Health prior to European contact and the impacts of colonialism

  • Infectious disease transmission and its lasting effects

  • Development of healthcare systems, including medical transportation

  • Inuit-led health innovations such as midwifery (Nunavik) and community health aide/practitioner programs (Alaska)
