It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our colleague Richard Hovey on November 28, 2025. Richard was a gifted educator and scholar whose work centred on patient-centred care, healthcare communication, and the lived experience of illness. Trained in education, exercise physiology, and health philosophy, he brought intellectual depth and humility to every space he entered.

Richard’s teaching and research were grounded in meaning, dialogue, and human experience. He was known for creating learning environments that valued reflection, inclusion, and connection, where ideas were explored through conversation rather than instruction alone. His influence extended well beyond the classroom, shaping how many of us think about ethics, care, and what it means to truly listen in health research and practice.
